It's a a treble for Craig Gordon as he's named Player of the Year

Craig Gordon SFWA Player of the Year

Craig Gordon has claimed the SFWA Player of the Year title for a third time

Craig Gordon has made history by landing the SFWA Player of the Year award for a third time as our members have made the veteran keeper our man of the season.

Having won the award in seasons 2005-06 and 2014-15, Gordon admits immediate ambitions for both club and country are his priority as he found time to praise his team-mates for their part in landing him some personal glory.

And he’s suggesting he might play on until he is 47.

Gordon came top of our poll ahead of Rangers captain James Tavernier, Celtic skipper Callum McGregor and his team-mate Cameron Carter-Vickers.

He said: "I am immensely proud and happy to have won this again. I have won it every eight years or so... so I might get it again in 2030!

"There were probably a few fans who thought I was a bit old to come back and might not make the same impact as the first time round, but that's what drives me to prove I can still play."

A Scottish Cup final against Rangers looms later this month and the guarantee of a third-place Premiership finish which lines up European group stage football next season for Hearts has surpassed many expectations for a side only promoted to the top flight last summer.

But Gordon is adamant this campaign can still deliver more if they make it a glory day out at Hampden, withWorld Cup play-off action for Scotland also on the horizon.

He continued: "It's going to be busy - and let's hope it's busy because that means we're achieving, both here at Hearts and at international level."

Gordon, having reclaimed the Scotland No1 slot, is set to face Ukraine on the World Cup play-off semi-final on June1 with hopefully a final in Cardiff against Wales.
