Katie Wilkinson named POTY
Katie Wilkinson has been named the Scottish Football Writers’ Association SWPL Player of the Year.
Wilkinson moved to Ibrox from Southampton in the summer of 2024 and has made a considerable impact over her two years in Scotland.
Lee Gibson of Glasgow City, Celtic’s Maria McAneny and star Georgia Timms were also on the shortlist for the award this season.
Wilkinson has secured the vote from Association members ahead of the fixture with Celtic on Sunday as Rangers look to remain in contention for the SWPL title.
“Yeah, it was a little bit of a surprise to be fair when I was told,” Wilkinson said of the recognition for her efforts this term.
“But yeah, really proud again to be recognised and obviously to see people putting my name forward and the work that's been put in has kind of shown a little bit of success for it.
“I think obviously with the goals that I've scored, I think I've been quite consistent in that regard. Obviously, my job is to score goals and try and give the team everything I can in the final third of the pitch.
“And I think there's definitely things and games I could have done a little bit better, but on the whole, I feel like I've had a good season.
“And hopefully, come the end of the season, we are bringing a little bit of silverware home.”
